Am I excited?

Or am I nervous?

Well, bit of both really. A close friend who was due the week before me had her baby on Thursday and told me about her labour. In some ways it was inspiring, but in some other ways it made me nervous that my time will come soon - am I ready? I guess you're never really ready though....lol

Still getting niggles, but the movement has calmed right down, which makes me think bubs is a bit engaged....either that or running out of room! Horrible heartburn and almost constant nausea though - it's like being back in the first trimester, but with a basketball attached to my front!!

We organised the nursery yesterday, so at least if bubs does arrive early he/she has somewhere to sleep. I've got the clothes all washed, nappies ready to go and hospital bag all packed. Now we just play the waiting game!

37 weeks and things are moving!

Could be any day now......getting constant 'niggles' and signs....could be wishful thinking, I'm feeling very ready to meet our new little family member!

Who are you - boy? girl? hair? no hair? look like me? look like hubby? look like Sophie? Weight? Time? Labour length? Day?

So many questions, so few answers - roll on D day!!

34 weeks and growing fast!

Nothing much to report, other than I'm growing fast, bubs is still moving lots and there is only 6 or so weeks to go - eek!

Have packed hospital and labour bags and washed all the clothes ready to go - hard to believe there will be a being that small in the house again.....so cute to see all the tiny things on the line....my 'little' girl is so grown up now it's hard to believe she ever fitted into those teeny tiny clothes!

Insomniac....

As I write this, I'm about to head back to bed. I've been awake since just after 1pm, having gone to bed at 10.30. I got out of bed at 4am and played on the computer for a few hours, it's now 6.45am. Figure I should try and get SOME sleep!!

Guess it's just my body getting ready for the all night feeding frenzies that are sure to occur in those first few weeks.....zzzzzz

Yukky!

2nd blood test this morning....yuk!

The 1st one Sophie got quite distressed because of my reaction - I'm actually quite phobic about needles and blood, so this time dosed myself up with Rescue Remedy (magic stuff!) and tried to remain calm and chatty. She was totally fine, saying 'Go Mummy Go!' all the way through and was actually quite fascinated by the blood filling the tube (I didn't look!!).

I think the ladies at this particular blood collection place are so wonderful - they never make a fuss when I say I need to have the blood taken while lying down, they never make me feel silly for having a fear about it all and they do it quickly and painlessly and try to distract Sophie as well - thanks ladies!!

So, all in all, it went well although I felt much better walking out (well almost running actually!) than I did walking in!!

Update - nearly week 29

Well, according to this gorgeous chart, bubs is nearly as big as a squash.....funny to watch the progression of size according to fruit and veges!

Still a mover and groover and now I can feel when a foot is poking out. The other day at the midwife I said I'd felt a sharp little edge and she confirmed it was a heel, so bubs is still head down at this stage, but it's early days of course!

Sophie now likes to lie with her head on my belly and tells me to 'shush Mummy, I'm listening to the baby".....so cute!!

3rd Trimester!

Here I am in the third trimester, 13ish weeks to go!! Can hardly believe it. Not a lot to report, this baby is still wiggling around a lot, especially if I drink something cold or eat chocolate.....or at night when I lie still and want to be sleeping lol

Boot camp

I don't know whether it's because it's second time around, or whether it's because I'm so much thinner this time around, but boy (and that's no hint on gender, we still don't know!!) this bub is so active and such a kicker!!

Sophie loves watching and feeling the baby kick and has started singing to the baby what she calls "the baby song"......'go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep (this third one goes up into notes only dogs can hear! lol) little baby'.....so very, very cute - brings happy tears to my eyes. She is so lovely with the belly, can only hope that the bond is as strong once the baby comes out.

She delights in telling everyone that once the baby is big, big, big (yes, we'll stop there thanks!), when the baby comes out it will do: a lot, a lot of sleeping; a lot, a lot of crying; and a lot, a lot of pooing, but I will rock the baby, sing to the baby and read the baby stories.....awwww!

Moving experience....

Been getting really strong movements for the last few weeks which is great, and very reassuring that all is well in there....but hadn't had any strong enough for the prospective Daddy to feel.

Cue strong booting after chocolate icecream on Saturday night....call Daddy over to feel.....little monkey goes quiet. Daddy waits patiently....no action. Daddy goes away....guess what? Boot, boot, boot - little rascal!!

Finally got to feel the baby kicking on Sunday night, quite by accident actually, but he was very pleased.

Sophie is so excited about the baby in Mummy's tummy - she tells everyone now...strangers in the supermarket, other kids at the park - it's very cute! We were lying on the couch having a little rest and she had her head resting on my belly when the baby gave a big boot right in her cheek. The look on her face was priceless! Surprise/excitement/wonderment.....she said "I hear the baby Mummy, I HEAR THE BABY!!!" So gorgeous.

She likes to sing to the baby and read it books which is really lovely too. Hoping this bond continues after the baby arrives!!

Braxton Hicks

For the last week or so, I've been experiencing Braxton Hicks (no not the love child of Toni and Taylor though that would be entirely more welcome and infinitely more interesting!), but the 'uncomfortable tightenings' that are designed to mimic and get you used to labour pains.

Now, I'm no wuss - my first labour was an intense and excruciating 7 1/2 hours with no pain relief, but these BH are really getting to me! I just have one thing to say - anyone who says that BH are NOT painful are big, fat liars!!!! That is all.

I find it so hard to sleep and man I need my sleep....and then they hit at random times during the day - in the middle of the supermarket, in the park while chasing after a runaway two and a half year old etc which makes for some not so amusing conversations with complete strangers let me tell you! I've panicked more than one person into thinking it's the beginning of labour and they're going to have to deliver a baby in the middle of a public place....they always seem a bit shocked when I say, no it's just the practice twinges and btw I'm only 22 weeks...

Here's hoping they ease off soon, it's really taking the shine off what is otherwise a lovely, textbook pregnancy! :-)

20 week scan - new photo of Wombat!

Well we had the 20 week scan and got to have another peek at wombat. All is well, measuring perfectly for dates and wombat was very compliant. Unfortunately did not manage to convince hubby to change his mind on not finding out the sex of bubs, so until due date, wombat is just that.....I wish I knew, I was even hoping the ultrasound person might slip up, but no such luck.

All good to find out that wombat is developing perfectly though.

Reached the halfway mark!

20 weeks today. Now it seems like this pregnancy is flying by!

Getting lots of kicks now.....especially in that early morning time...I guess that will be a feeding time when bubs arrives! Went to lunch with hubby on the weekend to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and had tiramisu for dessert - bubby went crazy on the coffee/sugar overload. Was a pretty crazy afternoon for us.

Starting to get the nursery all organised too - it's quite exciting now!

Little wriggler....

We knew when we had our last scan that this bub is a little wriggler - we have no clear, still pics of him/her!! Just in the last few days though, I've been feeling definite movement - not the butterflies, is it/isn't it flutters that marked the first movements I felt with Sophie, but full rolling around! I can see my belly rippling and it feels strange, but wonderful.

Just wish that he/she didn't pick 2 - 3am for the gymnastic efforts!! Nice to know you're there and happy little one, but 9 - 5 is better for mummy ok? :-)

Eating for two?

Gosh, eating for two sumo wrestlers at the moment apparently!!

Since the morning sickness eased, I am barely without food in my hands or mouth....haha.....cannot stop eating. Obsessed with crackers and cheese and all things salty - friends are surmising that means a boy, but I don't know, the icecream is still getting a good thrashing!

Trying to be sensible about what I eat, but it's hard when people keep encouraging you that you are eating for two, go ahead, have another slice of cake/piece of pizza/cookie etc....

I'm so glad to be out of the morning sickness phase, but I hope this endlessly hungry phase doesn't last the whole pregnancy either - our food bill is going up!

2nd Trimester already?

Wow, 14 1/2 weeks already - this seems to be flying by, not at all like my first pregnancy which seemed to drag the whole time!! Can't believe I'm in the second trimester. Seeing my midwife again next week, so looking forward to hearing that little heartbeat again.

Have a close friend who has just announced to me that she is also pregnant and due a week before me, so it's great to have someone to share the journey with too!

Here's hoping the rest of the pregnancy progresses as smoothly as it has thus far!

It's official!!

Had the 12 week scan this morning (at 13 weeks) and all is well. Bubba is a wriggler and so it took ages to get all the measurements done, but growth is right on track and heart is strong, so all good!

And now I can tell everyone!!

ARGH!!

Just when I thought it was getting better......I've had two days in the last week of just totally random morning sickness - trundling through the day feeling quite fabulous and then "uh-oh, there's breakfast again!" Not fun I assure you!! It's that sneaky ninja aspect that is so disconcerting, and is turning me into a hermit - I don't want to go anywhere "just in case"......one of my major phobias is yukking it in public - strange huh! And seeing as I mostly just look fat instead of really pregnant, hardly anyone would believe it's morning sickness - they'd probably assume I'm some kind of hardcore drinker or something.....lol

Hopefully it will ease completely soon, though I did have until 17 weeks with Sophie, so I'm not holding my breath!

On a brighter note - our 12 week scan is in 2 more sleeps! I'm very excited to get another peek at our little bubba!

The first magical milestone!!

12 weeks today! And amazingly I'm feeling pretty great! Had a few off days here and there, but nothing like the hell that was the first trimester with Sophie!! This bub is being very good to me so far.

Have to wait until next week for the '12 week' scan, couldn't get in any earlier, but I can't wait to get another sneak peek at wombat, as Sophie has lovingly dubbed my ever expanding belly!!

I think we'll wait until after the scan to start telling everyone though....so this will remain our little secret for another week....

Week 10!

Okay, now it feels like things are moving along...10 1/2 weeks now and the morning sickness is starting to recede, probably about as fast as the belly is growing!!

(Please excuse the sulky expression - I was concentrating!! Couldn't be bothered getting the tripod out!!)

Insomniac

This stage of pregnancy is really hard.....I can't tell many people about it, but the symptoms are all over the place!! Thankfully the morning (all day) sickness is starting to ease....but the insomnia is so annoying!! I go to bed absolutely exhausted, then after a few minutes of sleep, snap wide awake....here I am at nearly 2am, tired, but unable to go to sleep - argh! Hopefully this wears off soon.

9 weeks and 3 days today....and counting!!

Update....of sorts....

Well not much to say really, just rolling along - had a few rough days last week but having hubby on holiday has been an absolute godsend! He does all the cooking, while I try and clean and do washing etc when I'm not sleeping or just wanting to lie down! Hopefully this morning sickness won't last long.

Coming up 8 weeks now, 2/3 of the way until I can tell everyone! The secretiveness is really hard for me - I'm so crap at keeping secrets, but this one I have to for now.....lol

The first scan....

I was really nervous - as per last time - maybe this is all in my head, there is no baby, etc, etc, etc.....

Get in to the scan place with full bladder (and raging morning sickness and all over the place hormones) and go for scan.

Radiologist: I can see a pregnancy sac....(pause).....yes, definitely a sac

Me: No baby?

Radiologist: can't see....that doesn't mean there isn't....let's do an internal - you go to the loo and come back...

Me (freaking out!!)

Fast forward to internal scan - 30 seconds in - perfectly measuring little baby, heartbeat fluttering away.....just too early for the external ultrasound.

Me: HUGE sigh of relief!!

Hubby now knows the morning sickness is for real and for a purpose!!

So now the adjusted due date is the 28th October, which makes me 6 weeks today, not 7...

So it's all on now - hopefully the rest will run smoothly - do not need anymore scares like that one!!

Well, the journey begins....

Well, I'm trucking along okay at this stage. The morning sickness comes and goes (well actually sneaks up on me like some kind of vicious ninja...), but mostly I'm doing alright. Weirdly enough this time around it seems to be much worse around dinner time and early evening, with Sophie it really was morning sickness.

Of course, hubby thinks it's hilarious to joke that it can't be pregnancy related because it's called 'morning' sickness for a reason! (After the third time he said this and laughed at his own sad joke, I snapped and said 'it's only called morning sickness because a f@#$in man must have named it!! - he shut up and hasn't mentioned it since.... )

We've got a scan next Tuesday to check on dates/implantation site etc, as after my endometriosis operation there is a slightly increased risk of an ectopic pregnancy, however, after an initial consultation with a midwife centre, the midwife on duty told me that it would be extremely rare to have this without severe pain and copious bleeding, none of which I've had, so I'm very positive that all is well with B.I.T. (baby-in-tummy)....as Sophie has named it.

Sophie likes to say goodnight to the baby, and last night decided that the baby needed it's own kiss and hug before she went to bed, which was very cute....but when I asked her if Mummy was having a boy or a girl, she considered the question very thoughtfully and then stated...."a wombat" God I hope not!! Cute nonetheless....she is a treasure and I feel so blessed to be adding another to our family.
